Bright, fresh and full of life, this handloom Banarasi tanchoi comes in a vivid lime green and is finished with delicate meenadar work.
Tanchoi is one of the most distinctive weaves of Banaras. Its history is said to go back to Chinese weaving traditions, and Parsi traders brought those techniques to India. Weavers use several coloured silk threads in the weft to create intricate patterns across the whole fabric, woven into a smooth, satin-like base. What you get is a rich, densely patterned surface with a gentle sheen, flowing almost like a painting on silk.
Meenadar work adds touches of colour inlaid into the motifs, like enamel set in jewellery. It brings depth and charm to the lime green ground.
Handwoven by skilled Banarasi weavers, it's a saree that feels light, luxurious and quietly special. Wear it to festive gatherings, daytime celebrations and any occasion where you want to bring a burst of colour.
